Well, she has successfully completed 2 chemo treatments (with a shot the day after each treatment) and officially has no hair! She started noticing last Saturday morning that when she went to fix her hair it was starting to turn loose so she decided after shooting a wedding all day and most of the night that she and Leckey would shave her head. Yes, she had to have a "relaxing" refreshment to get the courage up and once she relaxed and they started the process, she handled it like a pro...
To go back to Saturday morning for a moment. Stacy's first reaction to seeing her hair coming out was tearful (as anyone could imagine it would be). Leckey (being the good hubby he is) recognized she was getting really upset and runs to the other room and grabs her cell phone, dials my number and hands the phone to Stacy and said here, talk to your sister. So here is a peak into mine and Stacy's relationship for a moment. I don't know what it is about me and Stacy, but somehow I can talk her off the ledge and once I do that she is ready to face everyone else. It's always been like that and I hope it always remains like that with us. Once she got her cry out and started laughing she knew she could then make the difficult call to the parents. Sometimes sisters just have to get it out before talking to the parents so we can be strong for our parents. I think that must be a coping mechanism as well as protecting our parents from anymore hurt they are already feeling. I can't imagine watching my child fight something so horrible as cancer and knowing there is nothing I can do to fix it or take it away so I'm glad Stacy feels like she can let go with me and then feel stronger to face our parents as she takes this journey.
I told her when she first found out she would lose her hair that if anyone could pull it off it would certainly be her. She can wear "tree hugging" clothes and still look cute (although I've threatened her within an inch of her life if she goes down that road again)... :) Turns out, I was right (AGAIN)! She looks super cute and was brave enough to post them on Face Book. Why not post them... It is what it is (as a wise man says all the time) and as cute as she is there is no sense in hiding... I thought I would take the liberty of sharing a few of her pictures so you can see the before, during, and after. Obviously there will be more to come, but I just couldn't wait to brag on her a little more... Good job sis, you've got this (piece of cake or Talopia (sp?) if it sits better on your tummy)... HA!
